My memory is more or less shot, but I do recall a Tompkins Sqaure Park bandshell concert sometime in 67 or maybe 68 that had a few groups playing, including Silver Apples, an electronic music band. But I can't remember if this was the 6/1 show with Grateful Dead. I've often wondered about this June 1 1967 Tompkins Square Park East Village NY show since they played a show on May 30th at Winterland. They would have to have flown to NYC from San Francisco to get there that quickly (only 1 day in between). I didn't know the band flew to gigs in 1967. It was awesome! I remember we walked up and talked with Pigpen and he gave us some of the pink carnations that were on his keyboards. We also were snapped in a photo by someone... the caption was "hippie girls dancing" and we had a good laugh about that because the hippie girls in question were actually climbing over park benches to get away from the press! Two more Grateful Dead notes: we also went to the Central Park free show later. And I think Karena made page 2 in the New York Times ( my curtain drape that I was dancing with also made the photo haha ). The other info is that my face is in footage of the Grateful Dead in the infamous The Hippie Temptation... it was inserted into the footage ( against my permission ). I am the blonde with flowers on her face when Harry Reasoner was giving his screed against hippies when he was saying "On their own terms." The footage was of the Dead preforming "Dancing In The Streets." I had not been to see the Dead at that time ( the footage of me had been taken at a Panhandle show of Country Joe and the Fish ). Though I did go to the Tompkins Square Park show and then later to the one in Central Park. In Linda Kelly's "Deadheads" book he talks about bringing the band up to Millbrook to meet Leary.

He notes: "Several things happened that day; one was that the Six Day War broke out. And the other was that Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was released in New York, or at least that's the first I'd seen it in a record store. I got a copy and brought it up to Millbrook, so it was the first time the Dead and Timmy heard it." (p. 63-64)

The Six Day War began on June 5th, so that fills in their activity for that day, assuming Barlow can be trusted.
