More like Hartford, PNC, those places.
That was a typical setlist for Jerry those days - he played a lot locally at the 2 Keystones then the Stone, which was not as cozy as the Keystones. It was easy to get within a couple of feet of the stage and watch the notes fly off of Jerry's Guitar, sometimes literally.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04596195790458036212noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-57684693750397619152020-01-24T03:22:51.356-08:002020-01-24T03:22:51.356-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.hallsarah204@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15030486128395008892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-21002532259479377252019-05-21T21:30:43.583-07:002019-05-21T21:30:43.583-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.landunghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01135870970883016443noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-75885407846023412452018-01-31T04:13:21.607-08:002018-01-31T04:13:21.607-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Komal Jainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05576439316152762203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-83674096313217868092018-01-24T10:47:00.618-08:002018-01-24T10:47:00.618-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Arunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09759521227859189994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-63538563135673102872018-01-13T12:50:03.871-08:002018-01-13T12:50:03.871-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.mod appshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05988010464586017619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-42309213206998137462017-12-09T08:19:45.963-08:002017-12-09T08:19:45.963-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Lucky Patcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02682961645313678913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-14253593299884161952017-02-05T07:38:47.062-08:002017-02-05T07:38:47.062-08:00I kinda vaguely recall (or maybe only imagine) tha...I kinda vaguely recall (or maybe only imagine) that there was 6% sales tax, so the $1 face would beget the $1.06 promo.Fate Musichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05648291938690043423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-37460474670772541332017-02-04T16:54:44.913-08:002017-02-04T16:54:44.913-08:00The $1.06 thing rings true, exactly the sort of th...The $1.06 thing rings true, exactly the sort of thing KMEL would have done. I was very excited for the Greek shows coming up the next weekend, and a warm-up chance to see Jerry was most welcome! I don't remember a lot about the non-Head crowd, although was very familiar with CC County folks from my high school and AAU swim team days in the East Bay. I do remember some other notable shows I saw at the Concord Pavilion, from my first (Benny Goodman with his orchestra in July 1977 - he had just signed to the Concord Jazz label, promoter of many of their signature festivals at that venue), to CSN to Bob Dylan with Neil Young sitting in in 1988 - we got away with making a tape on the lawn! Also, I seem to recall that the JGB gig tix were listed at $1.06, for KMEL FM 106, but then were printed at face $1.00, I assume to forestall awkward change-making. Anyway, thanks for the memories!Fred Levitanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14122238322524363801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-20179893735734808492017-01-31T16:42:44.793-08:002017-01-31T16:42:44.793-08:00This post was inspired by the fact that I was sear...This post was inspired by the fact that I was searching for something and I saw the ticket stub for this show (up top), with the 1.00 price, and I went--oh, yeah, I was there.Corry342https://www.blogger.com/profile/08049035074121231425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-42425551422959560922017-01-31T11:39:52.049-08:002017-01-31T11:39:52.049-08:00Wow, I just remembered that I saw Jerry at Concord...Wow, I just remembered that I saw Jerry at Concord once. I hazily recall being at a huge late season game, with that kind of plot, also notable in my kid's mind for a fan sign reading "Dodgers Eat Quiche".

BTW, you say the next JGB release after RFTR was 1990, but it was actually 1991./

This is a wonderful analysis, so Braudelian (natch). I don't actually agree with you, though, that Garcia gave any real consideration to taking the road more traveled. I think it was just a payday. My own argument about this period, supported by various kinds of business papers, is that it was one of tying up loose ends, cauterizing some old wounds, clearing up some unfinished business, getting his affairs more straightened out so that he could sit in Rock's basement and nod without so much hassle. So, again, I think I am just a few degrees off from your read, my only disagreement being the premise that he even considered going more conventional.

I look forward to checking out the 9/7/81 interview, of which I had been unaware.

Thanks!Fate Musichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05648291938690043423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-80983973481089645952017-01-15T13:47:23.828-08:002017-01-15T13:47:23.828-08:00I recorded the show with my new Sony TCD-5m. My friend also recorded but from the lawn in front of a PA speaker. It's definitely better but there were some technical difficulties and I think the lawn PA speakers cut out a few times. Both of those were comparable in size to Concord. By the late 80s the Dead were playing the much larger Shoreline Amphitheater.

That's not to say that they couldn't have played Concord, but the "summer-outdoors-gig" slot was already filled. I think there was an 89 JGB show at the Pavilion.

And of course Bruce Hornsby played there in 1990, and Garcia met Bruce at a McDonald's on or near Ygnacio Valley Road before the show and asked him to join the Dead. Jerry didn't sit in with Bruce, though.Corry342https://www.blogger.com/profile/08049035074121231425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5493557313410969282.post-43420373812591667232017-01-06T13:50:16.663-08:002017-01-06T13:50:16.663-08:00Great post.
